The 2024 Australasian Society of Lingual Orthodontists (ASLO) Conference

Greetings All,

The 2024 ASLO Congress wasn’t just a run-of-the-mill conference – it was my Harry Potter moment, just like stepping into a wizardry orthodontic wonderland. Attendees were treated to a smorgasbord of cutting-edge advancements and mind-blowing insights that left us all feeling like we’d just cracked the code to the ultimate smile.

But amidst all the serious learning and networking, there were moments of pure joy and laughter. Picture us; a group of orthodontic professionals bonding (pun intended) over invisible braces and hidden jaw changers like we were discussing the latest witchcraft and wizardry gossip – a sight to behold.

The 2024 ASLO Congress brought together leading experts, professors, doctors, and academics in the field of orthodontics, making it a truly transformative event. The Pre-Congress Morning Course on the Graphy Print Aligner System presented by Dr. Yong-min Jo from Duesseldorf, Germany, was a captivating session that showcased the potential of Shape Memory Aligners to revolutionise aligner treatment. We witnessed live demonstrations and hands-on production within the workflow, giving us a firsthand look at the power of this innovative technology to enhance patient care and outcomes.

The Stuart McCrostie Memorial Lecture by Professor Ryoon-Ki Hong from Seoul, South Korea, was also a highlight of the conference, providing insights into the latest advancements in lingual orthodontics. Professor Hong’s presentation on customised brackets, pre-formed straight archwires, and multi-functional micro-implants highlighted the potential for transformative results; a testament to the power of innovation and cutting-edge technology.

Throughout the congress, sessions led by all the professors, doctors, and academics on clear aligner treatment, lingual braces and digital orthodontics provided valuable insights that left us buzzing with excitement and new ideas.

Also, the opportunity to network and collaborate with colleagues from around the world sparked new possibilities for growth and collaboration. And let’s not forget the venue – Pier One Sydney Harbour was the perfect setting for this orthodontic extravaganza. All in all, it was like Hogwarts for orthodontists, where magic happened in the form of lectures, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations that left us feeling like we had just attended the best wizarding school in town. J.K Rowling could not have written a better moment in the life of a nerdy orthodontist.

Yours truly,

Dr Kamal Ahmed
