2024 Australian Public Holidays and South Coast Orthodontics Closure Dates

As we approach the end of another year, it’s time to start planning for the upcoming public holidays in 2024. At South Coast Orthodontics, we understand the importance of taking time off to relax and spend quality time with loved ones. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of public holidays in New South Wales for the year 2024.

The year kicks off with a bang on Monday, 1 January, with New Year’s Day. It’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past year and set goals for the year ahead. Whether you’re celebrating with a big party around the Illawarra, heading to Sydney Harbour for the fireworks, or enjoying a quiet day at home, make sure to start the year off on a positive note.

Next up is Australia Day on Friday, 26 January. This is a contentious day in our nation’s calendar, and given the recent referendum, there is still clearly much for all of us to do to help improve the lives and emancipate the rights of our indigenous First Nations people. Whether you observe Australia Day or not, we can all agree that living in Australia comes with a lot of privileges, opportunities, and importantly, responsibilities. Perhaps on this day, you’ll be barbecuing together with family and friends, or heading to one of the many events happening around the South Coast.

In March, we have the Easter long weekend. Good Friday falls on Friday, 29 March, followed by Easter Saturday on Saturday, 30 March. Easter Sunday is on Sunday, 31 March, and Easter Monday is on Monday, 1 April. For those who observe Easter, this is a time for religious observance, and also a chance to indulge in some chocolate eggs and hot cross buns. Rest assured that Coles and Woolworths at Corrimal and all across the Illawarra will be selling hot cross buns months in advance. Easter is also a great opportunity to take a short break and recharge before the busy months ahead.

April also brings us Anzac Day on Thursday, 25 April. This is a day to remember and honour the brave men and women who have served in the Australian and New Zealand armed forces. Many people attend dawn services or participate in marches to pay their respects.

In June, we have the King’s Birthday on Monday, 10 June. This public holiday is a chance to celebrate the birthday of the reigning monarch, currently King Charles III. It’s a great time to enjoy a long weekend and take advantage of the beautiful South Coast weather.

October brings us Labour Day on Monday, 7 October. This holiday is a chance to recognise and celebrate the achievements of workers and the labour movement. It’s a great opportunity to relax and enjoy some well-deserved time off.

Finally, we have the Christmas holidays. Christmas Day falls on Wednesday, 25 December, and Boxing Day is on Thursday, 26 December. These holidays are a time to celebrate with family and friends, exchange gifts, and enjoy delicious food. It’s the perfect time to unwind and reflect on the year that has passed.

At South Coast Orthodontics, we understand the importance of work-life balance and taking time off to recharge. We hope this list of public holidays in 2024 helps you plan your year ahead and make the most of your time off. Remember to take care of your oral health by brushing and flossing daily, and visiting your favourite local dentist. For our past and current patients, we wish you a happy and healthy 2024. For those who are considering orthodontics treatments and deciding on braces or Invisalign, feel free to call or email us anytime on any day throughout the year. We’ll respond and schedule your free consultation as soon as possible.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

1. When are Australian Public Holidays typically observed?

Australian Public Holidays are typically observed on specific dates throughout the year, such as New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, King’s Birthday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Some states and territories may also have additional public holidays specific to their region.

2. Are public holidays in Australia paid days off for employees?

Yes, public holidays in Australia are generally paid days off for employees. Employers are required to pay their employees for the hours they would have normally worked on a public holiday, even if the employee does not actually work on that day. Some employers may also offer additional penalties or bonuses for employees who do work on a public holiday.

 3. Can public holidays in Australia be substituted for other days off?

In some cases, public holidays in Australia can be substituted for other days off if an employee agrees to work on the public holiday and take a different day off instead. This arrangement must be made in accordance with the relevant employment agreement or workplace policies. Employers should also ensure that employees are properly compensated for working on a public holiday, as per the Fair Work Act. South Coast Orthodontics proudly complies with all aspects of the Illawarra, New South Wales and Australia Employment and Fair Work practices. Our employees and team members are treated fairly, respectfully, and equally.
