Hello,
It’s me, Dr Kamal, the geeky orthodontist from South Coast Orthodontics. I have a confession to make: nothing excites me more than advances in technology. That’s why I immediately replied “yes” to an invitation to attend a study group about 3D printed braces with Dr. Atul Mehta, Dr. Anel Blignaut and Dr. Steve Moate at the QT Hotel in Sydney.
It was definitely worth the trip from Corrimal through the Princes Highway, passing and bypassing Bellambi, Russel Vale, Woonoona, Bulli and other suburbs in the Illawarra till I reached the final destination at Sydney’s Central Business District.
When driving, we all look forward, and so too it must be with life, business, technology and patient care. We can never be static or still.
In fact, the field of orthodontics is witnessing groundbreaking advancements with the introduction of LightForce 3D printed braces.
What is LightForce?
In a nutshell, American orthodontist Dr. Alfred Griffin III conducted research in 2015, and discovered that it might be possible to 3D print a clinically acceptable bracket. After three years of intensive research and development, he successfully created a 3D printed bracket made of ceramic polycrystalline alumina.
Dr. Griffin III then partnered with Dr. Lou Shuman, a dental industry thought leader, to grow the LightForce team and bring their vision to reality. The company received United States Food and Drug Administration clearance in 2019 and officially launched LightForce. Today, they are making strides, leaps and bounds forward in Australia.
How will LightForce Benefit Patients at South Coast Orthodontics?
I see LightForce’s immense potential in revolutionising orthodontic treatment for our patients, and am exploring how South Coast Orthodontics can potentially integrate LightForce braces in our mix of patient solutions. Following are my professional thoughts and some remarkable benefits:
1. Tailored Treatment Plans
With LightForce braces, I can create personalised treatment plans that cater to the unique dental structure of each patient. By utilising digital imaging and CAD software, I can visualise the final outcome of the treatment even before it commences. This empowers me to make more informed decisions, and effectively communicate treatment goals with you, ensuring your satisfaction and confidence throughout the entire process.
2. Reduced Treatment Time and Discomfort
LightForce braces eliminate the need for frequent adjustments, thanks to their precise fit. This not only reduces treatment time, but also minimises discomfort for our you. By streamlining the treatment process, I can provide you with a more efficient and comfortable orthodontic experience.
3. Enhanced Aesthetics and Confidence
At South Coast Orthodontics, our team knows the significance of aesthetics in orthodontic treatment. LightForce braces utilise translucent materials that seamlessly blend with the natural colour of your teeth, offering a more aesthetically pleasing option. You’ll feel more confident during your treatment, without the self-consciousness often associated with traditional metal braces.
4. Future Integration and Advancements
As technology continues to evolve, I anticipate potential integration of LightForce braces into my practice. The potential for incorporating artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms will enhance treatment planning and accurately predict outcomes, making my work more efficient and our patients more satisfied.
My constant commitment is for South Coast Orthodontics to be at the forefront of transforming orthodontic treatment, possibly soon with LightForce 3D printed braces. By embracing this state-of-the-art technology, I can provide my patients with tailored plans, reduced treatment times, enhanced aesthetics, and increased confidence in the treatment process.
Technology has the power to improve all our patient’s lives, and I will drive or fly anywhere to discover it.
Yours truly,
Dr Kamal Ahmed
